Distance and Proximity

Night views of cityscape from a distance are always beautiful. They give me splendid illusions, but at the same time I feel melancholic. For, I seem to look at the bustle of the city as an outsider: a Japanese-born Korean in Japan or a foreigner in this country. I suppose that I have been in search of what is called “home” to me. Moreover I know the reality of life is not always just beautiful as the illusion.

The views make me imagine that various people are living various lives inside the houses as much as the number of the lights. Someone might be happy, some in trouble, some still at work in the offices, or others in bed with their partners… It seems that I am looking at an epitome of reality.
